Danny Petty started his head coaching career at Johnson High School in 1981. During his 10 year tenure at Johnson, the Jaguars won four city championships and two area championships. The Jaguars made it to the Final Four three times and won the 6A State Championship in 1987, when Johnson was ranked No. 24 in the nation. Danny was named AHSAA 6A Coach of the Year in 1987. Danny’s record while at Johnson was 180-97. Danny coached at Hazel Green High School from 1991-97, where his teams won 121 and lost 58. Danny retired from the Alabama school system in 1997.

Danny was inducted into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997 with over 300 wins.

Danny coached in Lincoln County, TN, from 1997-2001. He was named District Coach of the Year in 2000 when his team finished with the best record in Lincoln County TN High School history at 29-7 where they were Runner-Up in the District, Regional, and Sectional Tournaments. His overall record at Lincoln County was won 73-50.

Danny returned to Alabama in 2001 where he coached at Madison Academy from 2001-2006. Madison Academy finished the 2002 season as Area Champions. In 2003 and 2005, they were Regional Runner-Up and finished in the Elite 8 in the State Tournament. Danny also coached the girl’s team in 2004-05 where they were Area Champions with a record of 21-11. Coach Petty’s Madison Academy team was Area, Regional and State Champions in 2006. Danny was named AHSAA 3A Coach of the Year, The Huntsville Times Coach of the Year, and The Birmingham News Coach of the Year in 2006. Danny was named to Who’s Who Among American High School Teachers in 2003 and 2004.

This year marks Danny’s 5th season as head coach of the Bob Jones Patriots. In 2009, Bob Jones was 6A State Runner-Up with a record of 29-9. In 2010, Bob Jones High School won the NW Regional and 6A State Championship with a record of 20-14. Danny was named the 2010 AHSAA 6A Coach of the Year. In winning the 2010 State Championship, Coach Petty is the only coach in Alabama High School history to win three state championships at three different schools. Coach Petty won the National Federation of High School Coaches 2010 State Coach of the year Award. In 2011 Bob Jones was Area and Sub Regional Champions with a record of 26-10. Coach Petty won his 600th game on January 28, 2011. Coach Petty starts this season with a career record of 607-328.

In addition to his coaching success, Danny has also experienced tremendous success as a player in high school, college, and throughout his career. Danny won the 4A State Championship as a player in 1968 with the Lee Generals where he was named tournament MVP. Danny participated in the 2008 Senior Olympics in San Francisco where his team won the Silver medal. In 2010, Danny was named to The Huntsville Times 1960’s All-Decade Team.

Coach Mark Lambert - Head Junior Varsity Coach

Coach Lambert is a first year teacher and coach at BJHS. After an long business career, he sold his business and is now teaching economics, government and history. He has many years of coaching girls AAU and travel basketball. His bride of 27 years is Sylvia and they have 2 children. Daniel is a Junior at UAH and Shelby is a junior at Samford University. His hobbies are fishing, golf, running and his dogs..Molly and Pete. But most of all he loves spending time with his family.   


Coach Caitlin Richardson - Head Freshman Coach

Coach Richardson is in her first year coaching the Bob Jones Lady Patriots. She is the head 9th grade coach, and is also assisting with JV and Varsity. Coach Richardson played college basketball at the University of North Alabama from 2005-2008. Caitlin is married to Eric Richardson, who played football at UNA. Her coaching role model is Mike Krzyzewski.
